CHANDIGARH, June 9 — Punjab Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Monday launched “Mission Clean Punjab,” a technology-driven sanitation initiative designed to improve urban cleanliness across the state. Under the new guidelines, all civic administration officials, ranging from additional deputy commissioners to executive officers, are required to conduct mandatory field inspections every day between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM.
The minister stated that urban areas will be divided into specific 10-kilometer zones to ensure strict accountability. Each zone will be managed by a designated supervisory officer who must submit daily field reports directly to the department headquarters, where progress will be monitored continuously.
Reviewing the first day of operations via video conference with field teams at the municipal headquarters, the Local Government Minister noted that the campaign is designed as a sustainable framework rather than a temporary event. He maintained that an artificial intelligence-integrated mobile application will track real-time cleanup efforts. He declared:
“This is not a one-time big-size event. This is a daily war on dirt. Starting Today, 7 AM onwards, every officer will be on the field. No excuses. All officers must carry a smartphone with a working camera and internet connectivity. The Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann will monitor the drive. Any officer can get a call from the Chief Minister or me at any time.”
The minister asserted that surprise random checks will be carried out across various municipal regions without prior notice to ensure compliance. He noted that the initiative will encompass all tiers of municipal staff, from ground-level sanitation workers to municipal commissioners, making the physical impact visible to citizens in local streets and lanes.
The administration stated that the public is encouraged to report issues directly if visible improvements are not met in their residential zones. The minister maintained that the government aims for documented, empirical results to fulfill the chief minister’s directive of achieving standard civic cleanliness across all towns and cities in Punjab.
