New Delhi, July 16: Delhi’s historic Red Fort complex has been closed to the public from July fifteen to August fifteen in view of preparations for the upcoming eightieth Independence Day celebrations. The Archaeological Survey of India stated that the month-long closure is vital to facilitate security audits, stage construction, and overall structural setup before the national event.
The official directive, issued under Rule five of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules of nineteen fifty-nine, mandates the suspension of all general visits and ticket bookings until the conclusion of the August fifteen ceremonies. Security agencies have assumed operational control of the premises to perform safety checks. Personnel will install technical equipment and erect extensive barricading to ensure the venue is secured for the Prime Minister’s address to the nation.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site has served as the permanent backdrop for India’s sovereign celebrations since the country gained freedom from British rule in nineteen forty-seven. Keeping the monument shut to the public for thirty days ahead of the ceremony has been a standard administrative protocol observed annually since twenty twenty-two.
