DAMASCUS, JULY 28 — Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has announced that his administration is actively working toward a security agreement with Israel involving international stakeholders, framing the initiative as a key step toward broader regional peace and national economic rebuilding. In a televised interview, al-Sharaa stated that establishing security assurances along Syria’s southern border remains essential for stabilizing the nation.
President al-Sharaa affirmed that his government aims to avoid military friction with neighboring states while focusing on domestic recovery.
Syrian leadership indicated that a structured security agreement could serve as a foundation for resolving longstanding regional disputes. The diplomatic push comes as Israel maintains control over the strategic Golan Heights and has recently established additional buffer zones following military operations in southern Syria.
Addressing reports regarding regional military posture, President al-Sharaa declared that Syria harbors no intention of intervening in neighboring Lebanon.
He asserted that conversations with Lebanese representatives are instead directed toward bilateral cooperation and economic stabilization. The administration in Damascus continues to navigate severe post-conflict challenges, including internal security threats from remnant armed factions, the return of displaced refugees, and ongoing efforts to determine the fate of missing persons, whose numbers humanitarian groups estimate between 100,000 and 300,000.
