GHAZIPUR, JULY 30 — A delegation representing the Ravidasiya community met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Ghazipur on Thursday to express deep appreciation for the decision to restore the name of Bhadohi district as Sant Ravidas Nagar. The administrative change, originally announced by the Chief Minister from Varanasi on the occasion of Guru Purnima, has drawn widespread appreciation from followers and community leaders across the state.
Led by BJP Scheduled Morcha District President Shailesh Kumar, the community representatives maintained that the official renaming honors the legacy of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas while fulfilling long-standing public aspirations.
“This decision is a mark of respect for Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas and the sentiments of the Ravidasiya community. The community wholeheartedly thanks the Chief Minister for this decision,” affirmed members of the delegation during the interaction.
Dharampal Singh, Secretary of the Shri Guru Ravidas Janmasthan Public Charitable Trust in Varanasi, declared that having the district named after the revered saint brings immense pride to followers, calling it a historic and respectful step.
Former National Commission for Backward Classes member Kaushalendra Singh Patel asserted that previous administrative decisions had affected local sentiments, making the current restoration by the Yogi administration a widely welcomed development across the region. Community representatives added that they look forward to continued collaborative efforts toward social upliftment under the current leadership.
