NEW DELHI, AUGUST 15: India has set its sights on becoming a fully developed nation by 2047 through a comprehensive seven-point reform framework dubbed ‘Sapta Dhara’. Delivering his address on the 80th Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined the blueprint, which focuses on manufacturing, technology, logistics, defense, agro-food production, soft power, and the green and blue economy.
The ambitious road map demands an accelerated pace of transformation across both governance and enterprise, requiring joint action from central and state authorities alongside private industry.
“Things that have not been done in the last five or six decades, we have to do them in the next five to seven years,” Prime Minister Modi affirmed. He expressed firm confidence in the capability of citizens to meet these targets, adding, “I have faith in my country’s youth, farmers, labourers, daughters, and mothers to be able to do this.”
Achieving the national goal will require a fundamental shift in traditional working methods and target-setting across all sectors. Prime Minister Modi maintained that the scale of national ambition directly shapes the country’s global standing.
“Small dreams are not sufficient anymore, we should dream big; India has a big dream to become ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047,” he declared. “When the world’s most populous nation resolves to become developed, the world will look at us differently.”
He asserted that expansive goals drive national capabilities to greater heights, noting that the collective efforts of 140 crore citizens are steering the nation toward new benchmarks of progress.
“Our dreams, resolves should be big as this takes capabilities to greater heights,” he stated. “Every heart is vibrating with Vande Mataram. There is a tricolour in every house, every heart. With a new energy, the nation is moving ahead with new resolve.”
The morning address followed the traditional ceremonial unfurling of the national flag and a guard of honour at the historic Red Fort. As an Army band played Vande Mataram, Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters showered flower petals over the venue, marking the historic anniversary alongside tributes to freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi.
