Panipat, Sept 14: In a major enforcement success against illegal weapons trafficking, the Panipat police claimed to have disrupted an interstate arms smuggling network following the arrest of an active supplier in the district. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of illicit arms, a specialized team from Crime Investigation Agency-1 conducted a targeted operation late Sunday night along the Haridwar bypass road near Raslapur village. Police personnel intercepted the suspect, identified as Arif, a resident of Jalalabad in the Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, who had reportedly arrived in the area to deliver an arms consignment.
During the search operation, law enforcement officers recovered ten country-made firearms, comprising eight pistols and two country-made muskets, along with 26 live cartridges from the possession of the accused. Superintendent of Police Medha Bhushan confirmed that the suspect was presented before a local court on Monday, which remanded him to four days of police custody. Officials stated that further interrogation during the remand period will help identify the intended local recipients, trace the manufacturing sources, and map the broader inter-state network facilitating the illegal arms trade across region borders.
