Patiala/Chandigarh, Sept 17: The Aam Aadmi Party has appointed former Cabinet Minister Surjit Rakhra as the halqa incharge for the Samana assembly segment, a decision that has generated political interest regarding the party’s future election strategy in the region. Alongside Rakhra’s organizational responsibilities, the party named Balvir Singh as the halqa incharge for Shahkot, a seat currently represented by Congress lawmaker Hardev Laddi.

The organizational changes carry significance due to Rakhra’s established public base in Samana and his extensive background in state governance, having previously served as Revenue Minister under the SAD-led administration. Rakhra had joined the ruling party earlier this year after parting ways with his former political affiliations. Officials affirmed that the fresh appointments aim to strengthen administrative coordination and organizational outreach across these key constituencies as preparations build toward the 2027 legislative elections.
