Chandigarh, 12 January 2025: Ravibir Singh Grewal, 60, has been re-elected unopposed as the 32nd president of the Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC) for a second consecutive term after no other candidates filed nominations by the January 9 deadline.
This is the second time Grewal has secured the presidency without opposition, the first being in 2021. With no competition, this year’s elections—originally scheduled for January 25 with 1,800 eligible voters—will not proceed. The 11-member executive committee has also been finalized without voting.
The nomination process began on January 3 and closed on January 9, followed by scrutiny on January 10. Three of the 14 contenders for the committee withdrew their nominations before the withdrawal deadline on January 11.
The newly selected executive committee comprises Dr. GS Kochhar, Harjinder Singh Kang, Pratap Hoon, Gursimran Singh Sibia, Dr. Raman Abrol, Raman Singh Gill, Sanjeev Verma, Capt. Mohanbir Singh, Zorawar Singh, Gursimrat Singh Jawandha, and Gurpreet Singh Bakshi, with seven members retaining their positions from the previous term.
Grewal, a Doon School alumnus and grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Justice Gurnam Singh, previously defeated Birinder Singh Gill by a record 401-vote margin in the 2024 election, garnering 790 votes to Gill’s 389.
Unopposed elections are not new to CGC; even in 2020, Sandeep Singh Sandhu was elected president unopposed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
