Ex-DSP Sandhu Seeks Bail in Graft Case

Mohali, 14 January 2025: Facing charges of forgery and corruption for allegedly leveraging his position in land deals in Mohali, former Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gursher Singh Sandhu has filed for bail in a local court, nearly three months after being booked.

In his plea, Sandhu alleged that personal grudges and departmental rivalries fueled the accusations against him. “The complainant filed false complaints against me after I removed his security cover,” Sandhu claimed, adding that the probe was biased.

He further accused Rupnagar Superintendent of Police (SP) (Investigation) of conducting the inquiry to settle internal departmental scores.

Sandhu pointed out that earlier investigations by the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) had already dismissed the allegations as baseless. “The SP did not consider the prior inquiry by Mohali SSP, which found no merit in the complaint.

Additionally, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, a specialized body for corruption cases, was already examining the same issue,” he submitted.

Referring to the 2024 standing order by the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), Sandhu said, “The DGP clearly stated that multiple inquiries on the same matter should not be conducted, and any subsequent complaints must be forwarded to the original investigating officer. The SP disregarded these guidelines, conducting a separate inquiry that violated protocol.”

Sandhu argued that despite full cooperation during the investigation, the SP concluded unfoundedly that his responses were evasive. He alleged that the statements of associated witnesses were overlooked in the inquiry, resulting in a biased report against him.

“The inquiry referenced earlier findings by the Mohali SSP and the Vigilance Bureau, yet the SP chose to proceed without justification,” Sandhu noted. He added that the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rupnagar filed a status report on September 23, 2024, based on the same inquiry, leading to the registration of the FIR.

Defending his integrity, Sandhu described himself as a decorated officer with significant contributions to combating organized crime, having received the Chief Minister’s Medal for his commitment to duty.

Mohali police are set to respond to his bail plea on January 15.
