New Delhi, 17 January 2025: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday revealed that 16 Indian nationals who joined the Russian Army have been reported “missing” by Russian authorities.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared this update, noting that out of 126 Indians identified as having enlisted, 96 have been discharged, and two remain in active service.
“India has urged Russian authorities for the swift release of all remaining Indian nationals,” Jaiswal stated.
Concerns over the safety of Indian citizens participating in the Russia-Ukraine war have intensified following recent casualties.
Kerala resident Binil Babu, 32, was killed in action earlier this week, while another Indian, 27-year-old Jain TK, sustained injuries in the same incident.
Both hailed from Kuttanellur. Over 10 Indian nationals have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.
India has raised the matter with Russian authorities, reiterating its call for the immediate discharge of the remaining Indian nationals still connected with the Russian Army.
