Chandigarh, 25 February — A 33-year-old school bus driver from Fatehgarh Sahib, who suffered a fatal head injury in an accident, gave four critically ill patients a second chance at life through organ donation at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Jatinder Singh sustained severe head injuries in an accident on February 12. Despite medical intervention, he was declared brain dead on Saturday after completing mandatory brain stem death certification procedures.
His father, Kesar Singh, consented to donate his organs, leading to successful transplants of his heart, both kidneys, and liver.
“Losing a son is unbearable, but knowing he lives on through others gives us strength,” he said. “If his donation can save lives, it is the least we can do to honor his memory.”
PGIMER Director Vivek Lal called organ donation “the purest expression of humanity, where loss transforms into hope,” praising the family’s selflessness.
Vipin Koushal, PGIMER’s medical superintendent and ROTTO nodal officer, noted the critical role of coordination between medical teams and donor families. “This decision serves as a powerful reminder that even in profound loss, new beginnings are possible,” he said.
