Mohali, April 15: — Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa appeared before the Cyber Crime Police Station in Mohali on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the FIR registered over his controversial “50 bombs in Punjab” remark.
Bajwa was accompanied by senior Congress leaders including Amarinder Raja Warring, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Pargat Singh, and Rana Gurjeet Singh. The visit sparked protests outside the police station, where Congress workers raised slogans against the AAP government and staged a sit-in, accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of political vendetta.
“This is not just Bajwa’s statement, but a collective concern of Punjab Congress,” said state Congress president Warring. “We are ready to stay here overnight if needed.”
Earlier in the day, Bajwa moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking quashing of the FIR filed under Sections 197(1)(d) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alleging the charges were baseless and aimed at silencing dissent. His counsel APS Deol confirmed the plea will be heard on Wednesday.
Bajwa had claimed in a recent interview that 50 bombs had entered Punjab, of which 18 had exploded and 32 remained active. Police registered the case after he allegedly failed to substantiate the claim and did not initially cooperate with the inquiry.
Meanwhile, AAP’s Punjab unit led by Aman Arora staged a counter-protest in Phase 2, demanding Bajwa’s arrest.
