Chandigarh, June 6: Punjab’s premier healthcare initiative has provided cashless medical treatment worth ₹654 crore to 3.79 lakh patients across the state, according to an administrative review conducted on Friday.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led the progress assessment for the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, stating that the program serves as a critical financial shield for families facing unexpected medical emergencies. Under the current guidelines, every family in Punjab holds eligibility for free medical care valued up to ₹10 lakh annually at designated medical facilities.

“The scheme has witnessed an overwhelming response from the public and is emerging as a transformative step towards universal healthcare coverage in Punjab,” Mann noted during the administrative meeting.

State records indicate that 47.27 lakh individual health cards have been issued, extending medical coverage to 23.01 lakh families. Demographic data reveals that rural areas account for 69 percent of the registration base, while urban centers comprise 31 percent. Female beneficiaries make up 51.5 percent of the total cardholders, with male enrollment standing at 48.5 percent.

To streamline access for rural populations, the state is creating digital download platforms via WhatsApp and a dedicated web page. Mann stated that a mobile application-based enrollment system is also nearing completion. The network currently includes 835 empanelled medical centers, split between 223 public institutions and 612 private hospitals, to ensure widespread care delivery.
