New Delhi/Mumbai/Chandigarh, 13 October 2024: The Indian National Congress is closely examining the results of the recent Haryana assembly elections and has requested a booth-wise report to identify the factors contributing to its defeat, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said.
Stressing on the importance of this analysis, he said: “We are doing the analysis, along with Rahul Gandhi and other leaders. I held a meeting a couple of days ago to analyze the situation, and we are getting booth-wise reports. We want to understand how much fault lies with our workers, what role our leaders played, and what exactly happened.”
Kharge noted that the party had anticipated a strong performance in Haryana, as “the entire country was of the opinion that Congress would win,” with no indications from journalists or news channels suggesting otherwise.
“We are analyzing what happened,” he added.
“We will decide on our next steps based on this analysis. We will have to face several elections in the days ahead, and we will certainly look into it, keeping the upcoming elections in mind,” he said further.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a third consecutive term in Haryana, disappointing Congress hopes. When asked if the Haryana results would affect the upcoming Maharashtra elections, Kharge replied, “One election result will not have an impact on elections in another state. However, we need to understand why the results were this way, despite having public support.”
He expressed concern over the unexpected outcome: “We could have understood if the opinion was split 50:50, but despite the entire country—including media, channels, and public opinion—being in our favor, what was the reason behind this result? We need to find that out.”
Regarding any doubts about the election process, Kharge refrained from commenting, stating he would wait for the booth-wise report before making any judgments.
