Chandigarh, July 19: The Punjab government’s Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana has delivered timely financial relief to nearly 33 lakh women across the state, specifically assisting families during their most challenging financial phases. Demographic data reveals that more than half of the total beneficiaries belong to the 36 to 59 age bracket, a period typically marked by peak household commitments like higher education costs, healthcare, and loan repayments.

Out of nearly 70 lakh women enrolled so far, those who finished registration by June 25 have already received funds directly in their bank accounts. The remaining eligible applicants are scheduled to receive their assistance on August 1. The structural breakdown of the scheme shows that women aged 36 to 45 comprise 25.2 percent of the beneficiaries, while those in the 46 to 59 category make up 25.4 percent.

Households across various districts have utilized the support to navigate inflation and manage essential domestic costs. Sunita Rani, a 48-year-old housewife from Dhani Kharaswali village in Fazilka, explained how the financial aid helped sustain her children’s education.

“My daughter is pursuing a B.Tech degree and my son studies in Class XI. I have used most of the money to pay my son’s school fees and given the remaining amount to my husband,” Rani stated. She maintained that the assistance provided independent validation, adding, “Earlier, we received free electricity, then ₹10 lakh health insurance, and now this monthly financial support. The government has introduced several welfare schemes, especially for women.”

For others, the funds have addressed immediate medical needs and daily survival. Pachho, a 55-year-old widow from Ferozepur who lives with her divorced daughter and grandson, shared that the funds arrived during a particularly trying time.

“I spent part of the money on my treatment and saved the rest for household expenses. My husband passed away years ago, and we have been living in difficult circumstances. This assistance from the Bhagwant Mann Government has been a great support for us,” Pachho affirmed. She also noted that the funds helped cover her grandson’s schooling expenses.

The support has similarly cushioned working families facing sudden seasonal expenses. Preeti, a 28-year-old domestic helper from Fazilka raising two school-going sons, asserted that the timing was critical for her family budget.

“This money has helped us pay our children’s school fees. It has come at the right time and reduced our financial burden,” Preeti declared.
