Khanauri Border, Dec. 3: Jagjeet Singh Dallewal, convener of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), is reportedly in deteriorating health after being on a fast-unto-death since November 26. Farmer unions say Dallewal has lost 7kg, dropping from 86kg to 79kg.

In addition to significant weight loss, Dallewal, who is leading the hunger strike to demand a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. According to a health bulletin released by protesting unions, his blood pressure was recorded at 146/96, indicating stage 1 hypertension. Doctors at Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala have expressed concerns over his condition and have recommended immediate medical intervention.

Dallewal’s hunger strike intensified after an incident on November 26, when police removed him from the Khanauri border just hours before he began his fast. He was taken to a hospital in Ludhiana, where he was discharged on Friday evening, only to return to the border and resume his strike. Dallewal has refused medication during his hospitalization, remaining resolute in his decision to continue his protest.

Despite his declining health, Dallewal has remained steadfast in his commitment. “I am ready to sacrifice my life for the farmers, so I am not concerned about my health,” he told the media.

His fast is part of a broader movement by farmer unions at the Punjab and Haryana borders, demanding legal guarantees for MSP. Dallewal has vowed to continue his fast until the farmers’ demands are met, underscoring the growing tension over agricultural policies in the region.
