Chandigarh, 26 October 2024: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that no parking fees can be levied on lawyers, litigants, or anyone else using the court premises.

Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal said that such fees require authorization from both the Union Territory administration and the high court itself.

“This order must be communicated to the registrar general of the court,” the bench directed, instructing him to inform the president of the Punjab and Haryana Bar Association, the advocates general of Punjab and Haryana, and the president of the employees’ association.

This decision came during a hearing addressing infrastructure concerns within the high court. A lawyer had presented evidence in the form of a parking fee slip, indicating that charges were being imposed by the bar association.

The court warned that any violation of this ruling would be considered contempt of court, underscoring the seriousness of the directive and the need for compliance among all parties involved.
