New Delhi, 29 January 2025: ISRO marked a milestone with the 100th launch from Sriharikota, as the GSLV-F15 rocket carrying the NVS-02 satellite lifted off at 6:23 a.m. The success added to India’s advancements in space technology and navigation.

“Mission Success! The GSLV-F15/NVS-02 mission has been successfully accomplished. India reaches new heights in space navigation!” ISRO posted on X.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh, overseeing the Department of Space, congratulated ISRO, calling it a “landmark milestone” and expressing pride in being part of the moment. “Team ISRO, you have once again made India proud,” he wrote on X.

The launch also marked the first major mission under ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, who took office earlier this month. “The satellite was precisely injected into the required (GTO) orbit. This mission, being the 100th launch, is a very significant milestone,” he said in his address.

NVS-02 plays a key role in enhancing India’s Regional Navigation Satellite System (NavIC). The second-generation NavIC satellite, designed to ensure service continuity, transmits signals in L1, L5, and S bands and includes a C-band ranging payload. Weighing 2,250 kg with a power handling capacity of 3 kW, it replaces IRNSS-1E at 111.75ºE.

Equipped with both indigenous and procured atomic clocks, NVS-02 ensures precise time estimation. Its predecessor, NVS-01, launched aboard GSLV-F12 on May 29, 2023, was the first to carry an indigenous atomic clock, marking a step toward self-reliance in satellite navigation technology.
