NEW DELHI, MAY 6 — Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal declared on Tuesday that Punjab is experiencing a rare wave of pro-incumbency as the state government enters its final year. Speaking at a meeting with party lawmakers at Kapurthala House, Kejriwal stated that the administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has earned widespread praise for its developmental track record.
The AAP chief maintained that while governments typically face public dissatisfaction after four years, the situation in Punjab remains the opposite. He affirmed that residents across villages and urban localities are openly supporting the current leadership due to significant improvements in infrastructure and social welfare.
“In the final year before elections, it is very rare for people to praise a government,” Kejriwal stated. “But in Punjab, you can go to any village or any locality, and today there is no anti-incumbency, instead there is pro-incumbency. People openly and wholeheartedly praise the Punjab government.”
The former Delhi Chief Minister noted that the state has undertaken unprecedented road construction projects, totaling 44,000 kilometers. He also pointed to the development of hundreds of sports grounds and the provision of free electricity as key pillars of the party’s success. Kejriwal further asserted that the government has ensured irrigation water reaches every field, while providing a ₹10 lakh insurance cover for citizens.
Addressing the broader political landscape, Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to undermine democratic processes. He claimed that the central government has withheld Punjab’s Rural Development Fund (RDF) and “stolen” six Rajya Sabha seats from the state. He declared that the upcoming February elections would serve as a turning point for the nation.
“The BJP’s winning streak was like that horse moving forward, and it was the people of Delhi and the Aam Aadmi Party who stopped it,” Kejriwal added, referencing historical metaphors of resistance. He maintained that Punjab would once again serve as a shield for democracy, halting the BJP’s momentum and leading to a change at the national level
