AMRITSAR, May 6 — A low-intensity explosion occurred near the outer wall of the Amritsar Army Cantonment on Khasa Road late Tuesday night, marking the second such incident in the border region within 24 hours. The blast, which took place around 11:15 p.m., caused a portion of the tin sheeting on the security wall to collapse, though no casualties were reported.

Amritsar Rural SSP Suhail Qasim Mir stated that police teams were dispatched to the site immediately after receiving reports of a loud noise. Preliminary findings suggest an object was thrown at the wall, triggering the detonation. Forensic experts and bomb disposal squads have since collected samples from the scene to determine the composition of the explosive device.

“Initial investigation suggests that someone had thrown something at the wall, which caused the explosion,” SSP Mir affirmed. He noted that Quick Response Teams (QRT) are currently securing the perimeter while a coordinated search is underway.

The incident follows a similar blast outside the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar, prompting a massive security response. Personnel from the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and Punjab Police have initiated a joint search operation across the district to identify those responsible. Security agencies across the state have been placed on high alert as investigators look for potential links between the two explosions.
