CHANDIGARH, MAY 10 — The State Legal Services Authority on Saturday disposed of more than 19,000 cases during a massive National Lok Adalat held at the District Courts Complex in Sector 43. Judicial officials stated that the day-long exercise resulted in amicable settlements totaling approximately ₹14.25 crore, providing significant relief to litigants and reducing the pendency of various civil and criminal matters.

A total of 13 benches, headed by serving judicial officers, took up a wide range of disputes, including bank recovery cases, matrimonial disagreements, and consumer complaints. Officials noted that 10,595 pre-litigation matters and thousands of pending traffic challans were successfully resolved during the session. Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi, who supervised the proceedings, stated that the welfare of children remains the primary focus in matrimonial settlements, urging parties to seek amicable resolutions.

Among the high-value settlements, the Debt Recovery Tribunal-II disposed of 26 cases involving ₹9.71 crore, while the State and District Consumer Commissions settled matters worth over ₹5.46 crore. Authorities stated that the Lok Adalat serves as a vital supplementary forum for quick and economical justice. Organizers maintained that such initiatives align with Gandhian principles by encouraging mutual compromise over prolonged litigation.
