SANGRUR, MAY 1 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated a modern Community Health Centre in Kauhrian on Thursday, providing a critical healthcare link for approximately 35,000 residents across 85 villages. The 30-bed facility, completed at a cost of ₹13.23 crore, introduces specialized medical services to a region that had lacked such infrastructure since the country’s independence.

The new center is equipped to handle a wide range of medical needs, featuring four outpatient departments, two major operation theaters, and specialized pediatric care. Mann stated that the facility represents a significant upgrade from the village’s original primary health center established in 1962. He affirmed that the hospital will offer 24-hour emergency services and surgeries, ensuring that serious illnesses can be treated locally.

“After nearly 80 years of Independence, people of Kauhrian village are celebrating getting their first 30-bed hospital,” Chief Minister Mann declared. He maintained that while previous administrations focused on familial interests, his government is dedicated to returning public funds to the community through essential services like schools and hospitals.

The facility is designed to provide comprehensive care, including dental services and an Opioid Agonist Therapy (OOAT) center for addiction treatment. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed the administration’s commitment to universal health, noting that ₹2,000 crore has been allocated for health insurance. He stated that patients at the new center will have access to free medicines, X-rays, and lab tests under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the project restores dignity to the Dirba region, which he claimed was intentionally kept backward by prior governments. He affirmed that the addition of this hospital, alongside a planned medical college, marks a new era of development for the area’s rural population.
