Chandigarh, April 21: The Punjab government has distributed ₹728.48 crore through the Ashirwad Scheme to support Scheduled Castes and economically weaker sections during the current administration’s tenure. Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the funding has provided financial relief to more than 1.43 lakh families across the state.
This initiative functions as a critical safety net for households facing the high costs associated with the marriage of daughters. The program is available to permanent residents of Punjab who live below the poverty line, specifically those from Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and other underprivileged groups.
“The Punjab Government’s objective is not only to provide financial assistance but also to ensure dignity, security and a respectful life for daughters belonging to poor families,” Dr. Baljit Kaur affirmed.
The minister noted that the scheme allows for financial aid for up to two daughters per household. This policy aims to transform a period that often brings financial stress into a moment of security. Dr. Baljit Kaur declared that the administration remains dedicated to social justice and will continue strengthening these public welfare measures.
To ensure the integrity of the program, the minister instructed department officials to maintain transparency in the delivery of funds. She asserted that applications must be processed quickly to prevent any deserving family from missing out on state support.
