SAS NAGAR, MAY 5: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared on Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should abandon any aspirations of assuming power in the state. Speaking to the media in SAS Nagar, the Chief Minister asserted that the people of Punjab have not forgotten the treatment of farmers during the agitation against the now-repealed farm laws.
Chief Minister Mann stated that the lives of over 700 farmers who died during the protests remain a significant point of contention for the state’s residents. He maintained that the “step-motherly treatment” meted out by the central government—including the withholding of state grants and attempts to infringe upon the rights of Panjab University and the Bhakra Dam—has created an unpardonable rift.
“The brave and wise people of Punjab will never forget these misdeeds and will teach them a befitting lesson,” the Chief Minister affirmed. He added that while the BJP may see electoral gains elsewhere, Punjab’s unique history of martyrs and saints makes it resistant to the party’s current political character.
Addressing social welfare, the Chief Minister noted that his administration is delivering tangible results through 990 Aam Aadmi Clinics and the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, which provides ₹10 lakh in health insurance to every resident family. He also stated that under the Mawan Dhiyan Satikar Yojna, the government is providing direct financial assistance of up to ₹1,500 to women across the state.
On the issue of religious sanctity, Chief Minister Mann affirmed that the state has unanimously passed the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act 2026. He declared that this legislation ensures harsher punishments for sacrilege, aiming to prevent future incidents of ‘beadbi’ that occurred under previous administrations.
