Chandigarh, July 16: Punjab has become the first state in the country to set up a Specialized Adoption Agency in every single district. The expansion has brought the total number of operational facilities to twenty-six, including sixteen managed directly by the government and ten operated by non-governmental organizations.
Cabinet Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr Baljit Kaur affirmed that the administration remains dedicated to ensuring no child is left without family care and legal protection. The minister maintained that the state is actively building a child-centric structure that strictly protects the fundamental rights of every minor.
Official records from the last three years show that one hundred and thirty-four children have successfully secured legally protected family environments. This includes eighty-seven orphaned, abandoned, or surrendered children, alongside forty-seven individuals who were adopted legally by relatives and step-parents.
The institutional push was further detailed during a recent state-level training program centered on the Adoption Regulations of twenty twenty-two. Administrative heads noted that smooth collaboration between District Magistrates, Child Welfare Committees, and medical officers is crucial to speeding up rehabilitation timelines. The orientation session also featured compliance guidance from the Central Adoption Resource Authority to help local departments navigate documentation and digital tracking portals effectively.
