Chandigarh: Jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh stated that there is a need for a fresh political platform to address Sikh and state issues due to the marginalization of the Shiromani Akali Dal, a day after his father, Tarsem Singh, announced plans to launch a new panthic party.

In his statement shared on the microblogging site X, Amritpal said, “On the appeal of Sangat (community) and after extensive discussions, we have decided that Punjab needs a regional political party to tackle the issues faced by the state and panth. The marginalization of Akali Dal has led to Sikh issues disappearing from politics, while other organizations claiming to be panthic have failed to establish grassroots connections.”

Amritpal, along with nine aides, is currently incarcerated in Dibrugarh jail, Assam, under the National Security Act (NSA). The statement appears to have been released by his social media team.

“The goal of the party is to advocate for the rights of Punjab and to ensure the demands of Punjab and the panth are met. We will also present a resolution that will serve as the foundation for our struggle for greater rights in Punjab. This endeavor will evolve into a mass movement, uniting organizations that are currently struggling on various issues under one banner,” the statement added.

This announcement follows a meeting between Amritpal and his wife, Kirandeep Kaur, in Assam on Monday.

Meanwhile, Tarsem Singh, flanked by his wife Balwinder Kaur, declared the launch of the political party on Sunday, after offering prayers at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
