Tanda, April 22: The Tanda region of Punjab is celebrating a unique international achievement as two sisters from Rara village, Harpreet Kaur Sandhu and Kamalpreet Kaur, secured positions in German local government. Harpreet Kaur Sandhu marked a significant milestone by being re-elected to both the City Parliament (Stadtparlament) and the Foreigners’ Advisory Council (Ausländerbeirat), confirming her second consecutive term in public office.
The news triggered widespread celebrations in their native village, where family members and local leaders gathered to mark the occasion. Amarjit Singh Sandhu, a prominent farmer leader and state president of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Azad), affirmed that such global accomplishments bring immense honor and elevate the pride of the entire community. He stated that the sisters’ father, Narinder Singh Sandhu, moved to Germany approximately 30 years ago, with the rest of the family joining him nearly 15 years later.
Harpreet Kaur Sandhu declared her commitment to public service in a statement following the results, noting that the victory belonged to everyone who placed their trust in her. She maintained that she would work diligently over the next five years to meet the expectations of her constituents. Furthermore, she stated that the participation of first-time voters was vital and affirmed that collective responsibility is essential for building a progressive society.
Local residents in Rara noted that despite living in Europe for over a decade, the family has remained deeply connected to their roots in Punjab. Amarjit Singh affirmed that the success of both sisters has brought recognition to the region and serves as an inspiration for others.
