Patiala, June 27: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that the individuals who protected the perpetrators of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji sacrilege for 15 years will never receive forgiveness from the Sikh Sangat. Speaking during a public interaction program, Lok Milni, at Gajewas village in the Samana Assembly constituency of Patiala district, the Chief Minister affirmed that those responsible for the heinous crime would soon be imprisoned under the provisions of the newly introduced Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.

The Chief Minister asserted that past regimes failed to address the sentiments of the public, which allowed anti-social elements to evade justice. He maintained that previous administrations protected wrongdoers instead of taking action against them, whereas the current legislative amendment is carefully drafted with legal experts to eliminate loop-holes.

“The maximum beadbi incidents took place during the regime of the Badals, but no one was punished for them. Instead of acting against the perpetrators, firing was ordered against the innocent Sikh Sangat. Captain Amarinder Singh, who succeeded the Badals, also did nothing to assuage the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat by punishing the culprits behind this heinous crime,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated.

Addressing administrative achievements, the Chief Minister noted that the state exchequer is being utilized effectively for public welfare initiatives, including infrastructure, education, and health. He handed over a development grant of ₹51 lakh to the village Sarpanch, stating that ensuring financial security for women and better amenities remains a top priority.

The Chief Minister further detailed that the government has structured the new law to prevent culprits from escaping accountability by claiming mental illness. The legislation introduces strict legal accountabilities for the guardians or custodians of individuals involved in such orchestrated acts.

“If someone is truly mentally unstable, then why does he only target Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji? Why does he not crash into a train engine or touch live electric wires? The truth is that such acts were often deliberate and orchestrated. Therefore, we have added a clause in the law that even if someone is medically declared mentally unstable, then their custodians, parents, guardians or caretakers will also face criminal charges,” the Chief Minister declared.

The administration has introduced several public welfare programs alongside legal reforms, including the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, which provides cashless medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh per family. Additionally, the upcoming Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna will provide monthly financial assistance directly to women across the state starting July 1, supported by a dedicated budgetary allocation of ₹9,300 crore.
