Washington, D.C.June 7 – The United States has reiterated its unwavering support for India in the fight against terrorism during a high-level meeting between a visiting all-party Indian parliamentary delegation and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

Led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, the Indian delegation met Landau on Friday, capping the US leg of its multi-nation tour aimed at conveying India’s stance on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent military response, Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

“The all-party parliamentary delegation led by Dr. @ShashiTharoor had a warm and candid conversation with US Deputy Secretary of State Landau,” the Indian Embassy said in a statement posted on X. “The Indian delegation briefed him on the atrocities of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.”

Landau echoed Washington’s solidarity with New Delhi. “I reaffirmed that the US stands strong with India in the fight against terrorism,” he posted on X after the meeting. “We discussed the US-India strategic relationship, including expanding trade and commercial ties to foster growth and prosperity for both countries.”

A statement from US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed the meeting, stating Landau “reaffirmed the United States’ strong support of India in the fight against terrorism and the strategic partnership between the two countries.”

The delegation discussed advancing key aspects of the bilateral relationship—ranging from economic cooperation to broader regional security. “The two sides also had a wide-ranging conversation on the importance of strengthening bilateral relationships through advancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” the Indian Embassy added.

The group also held a “productive meeting” with Senator Chris Van Hollen, a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The senator expressed deep sympathy for the victims of repeated terror attacks in India and reiterated the US commitment to supporting India’s right to self-defence.

Tharoor also held a telephonic conversation with Senator Cory Booker, another member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Describing the call as “warm and productive,” Tharoor said he detailed the “monstrous” Pahalgam attack and outlined India’s firm response through Operation Sindoor.

“Senator Booker unequivocally condemned terrorism and expressed sympathies with the victims. The conversation also touched upon broader themes in the India-US strategic partnership, which enjoys robust support,” Tharoor noted on X, expressing hope for an in-person meeting in the future.

Alongside Tharoor, the Indian delegation included MPs Sarfaraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur Balayogi, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Milind Deora, Tejasvi Surya, and India’s former Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Sandhu.

The visit concluded with a reception hosted by the Indian Embassy, attended by prominent American lawmakers, members of Congress, and policy experts, further reinforcing the growing consensus in Washington on deepening India-US strategic ties amid shared concerns on regional security and terrorism.
