‘Very Bad’: Harsimrat Badal Slams Ram Rahim’s Parole

Amritsar, 28 January 2025: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal criticized the Haryana government’s decision to grant parole to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, terming it “very bad.”

Speaking to reporters after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, she remarked, “It is very bad. People understand everything.”

The 30-day parole, granted under legal provisions, allowed Ram Rahim to visit the Dera Sacha Sauda ashram in Sirsa. Haryana Jail Minister Ranjit Singh Khurana defended the move, stating, “Parole is a legal right of every prisoner. This should not be linked to any political events or elections. Ram Rahim’s parole was processed according to law after he specified the ashram as his destination.”

Khurana added, “Legally, parole can be granted for up to 70 days a year, while furlough is limited to 21 days. His parole falls entirely within these boundaries.” Ram Rahim, serving a 20-year sentence for raping two disciples, left Sunaria Jail in Rohtak and reached the Sirsa ashram early in the morning.

The timing of Ram Rahim’s release has sparked criticism, coinciding with heightened political activity ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the BJP-led central government of orchestrating a “huge conspiracy” to manipulate the elections, claiming officials are being directed to remove AAP supporters from voter rolls.

In response, the BJP accused the Delhi government of settling Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in the national capital, alleging they were issued Aadhaar and voter cards to boost the party’s vote bank.

The Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 years but faced back-to-back defeats in 2015 and 2020, remains on the sidelines of the heated battle between AAP and BJP.

The 2020 elections saw AAP dominate by winning 62 of 70 seats, leaving the BJP with eight and the Congress empty-handed.
