New Delhi/Chandigarh, November 5, 2024: The winter session of Parliament is set to commence on November 25 and will run through December 20, 2024, as announced by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju.
Anticipation is building as both houses prepare to discuss several significant bills, with heated debates expected over issues like the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative and a proposed amendment to the Waqf Act.
Traditionally, the session will begin with an address by the President, followed by legislative business.
The government is also likely to hold an all-party meeting, as customary, to ensure the smooth functioning of the session. Given the opposition’s aggressive stance, tensions are expected to be high, particularly around ‘One Nation, One Election’—a proposal that recently gained Cabinet approval and is set for a major push in the upcoming session.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is also scheduled to address both houses, updating members on the latest agreement with China amid ongoing tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). After years of strained relations, recent developments have seen Indian and Chinese forces resuming patrols on the LAC, signaling potential diplomatic progress.
In addition, a bill proposing full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir is likely to be introduced, marking a significant step for the region.
With these key issues on the agenda, the winter session is expected to be one of the most eventful in recent memory.
