Chandigarh, March 24 — Dr. Ravi Bhagat officially assumed office as the Principal Secretary to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday, vowing to ensure the timely and effective delivery of public services. The ceremony took place at his office in Chandigarh in the presence of senior state officials.
A 2006-batch IAS officer, Dr. Bhagat noted that implementing the pro-people and development-oriented policies of the Mann-led government would be his top priority.
He committed to focusing on key sectors, including education, healthcare, and employment, while streamlining citizen-centric services.
Dr. Bhagat, known for his proactive governance, previously served as Deputy Commissioner in Faridkot, Amritsar, and Ludhiana. He also held leadership roles in Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA), GMADA, and the Mandi Board. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his efficient public service initiatives earned him national and international recognition.
Notably, under his leadership, Punjab achieved two Guinness World Records—one in 2015, when 10,000 students participated in an anti-drug campaign, and another in 2018, when 82 freedom fighters sang a peace song.
Dr. Bhagat holds a doctorate in MSP of Geopolitics and is widely respected for introducing innovative reforms in health, education, social security, and governance.
