Mohali, April 04: Mohali Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has called on the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to urgently address the growing threat posed by stray dogs in areas under its jurisdiction.

In a letter to GMADA’s minister and chief administrator, Bedi named several affected localities, including Aerocity, IT City, TDI Sector 116–117, Sectors 82, 86, 88, 89, 90–91, Lakhnaur, Landran, Chhappar Chiri, Rurka, Manouli, Kambala and Kambali.

He accused GMADA of collecting development fees while failing to ensure public safety.

“Residents, especially children, women and the elderly, are under constant threat due to the rising stray dog population,” Bedi said.

“Hundreds of bite incidents have been reported over the years. GMADA cannot ignore this while profiting from these areas.”

He attributed the problem to the absence of sterilisation efforts and said the issue had led not only to dog attacks but also to road accidents. Bedi demanded immediate steps, including a city-wide sterilisation drive, establishment of shelters, and deployment of monitoring teams.

“The situation is dangerous and needs urgent intervention,” he wrote, warning that the crisis, if left unaddressed, could escalate further.
