Patna, June 9 —A woman and her daughter were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Patna’s Alamganj locality on Monday morning, police said. The victim’s husband also sustained bullet injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased were identified as Mahalaxmi, a retired nurse of Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, and her daughter Santhali. The attack occurred around 9:15 a.m. near Arfabad canal, under the jurisdiction of Alamganj police station, according to officials.
“Mahalaxmi and her daughter were rushed to the nearest government hospital where they succumbed to their injuries,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police (Patna City) Atulesh Jha. “Their husband, Dhananjay, who was also injured in the firing, is being treated. His condition is currently stable.”
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Police said a manhunt has been launched to track down the attackers, and an investigation is underway.
This is the second firing incident in Patna within 24 hours. On Sunday, three persons—including a sub-inspector (SI) and his son—were injured in a shooting over a land dispute in the Dhanarua locality of the district.
The injured SI, Manoj Singh, posted in Saharsa district, is also receiving treatment in hospital, police confirmed.
The twin incidents have raised serious concerns over public safety and growing incidents of gun violence in Patna. Authorities have promised swift action, though no arrests have been reported in either case so far.
