TEHRAN, June 13 – Iran declared that any further negotiations with the United States over its nuclear program are now “meaningless,” following Israel’s most extensive military assault against Iranian targets to date.
“The other side acted in a way that makes dialogue meaningless,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei was quoted as saying by the semi-official Tasnim news agency. “You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time divide work by allowing the Zionist regime to target Iran’s territory.”
Baghaei alleged that the Israeli attack was carried out with Washington’s approval, saying, “This aggression could not have taken place without American coordination. Israel succeeded in influencing the diplomatic process.”
The comments come after days of heightened tension following Israel’s latest military action, which struck multiple locations within Iran. Tehran had earlier accused the US of complicity in the attacks—a claim Washington firmly denied.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, US officials called on Iran to return to talks. “It would be wise to negotiate,” a US delegate said, reiterating Washington’s position that diplomacy remains the path forward.
The sixth round of nuclear negotiations between the US and Iran was scheduled to be held in Muscat on Sunday, but its fate now appears uncertain in the wake of these developments.
US President Donald Trump, in a statement to Reuters, acknowledged that his administration had advance knowledge of the Israeli strikes. However, he added that “there’s still room for a deal” despite the escalations.
Iran, for its part, continues to maintain that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and for civilian use only, dismissing Israel’s longstanding claims that Tehran is pursuing nuclear weapons.
