AMRITSAR, June 27 — A 45-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his two friends in Gumtala Colony under the Cantonment police station late Thursday night, in what police suspect was a fallout of an illicit relationship.
The victim, identified as Gurinder Singh, a resident of Gumtala Colony and employed as a security guard, was found dead after being attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. Police have registered a case of murder against Sukhwinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, both from Guruwali, who are currently absconding.
According to police, Gurinder and Sukhwinder had become close friends and often visited each other’s homes. However, tensions escalated when Sukhwinder suspected Gurinder of being involved in a relationship with his wife.
“An argument broke out between them earlier in the day, which was defused by local residents,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (West) Shiv Darshan Singh. “Later that evening, Sukhwinder, along with his friend Gurpreet, confronted Gurinder and attacked him with a datar (sharp-edged weapon), causing fatal injuries.”
Gurinder reportedly died on the spot due to excessive blood loss. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered, and raids are underway to trace and arrest the two accused, the ACP added.
