Amritsar, Aug 30 — Punjabi singer Satinder Sartaaj has dispatched one month’s ration for 500 families affected by floods in the border subdivision of Ajnala, officials said Saturday.
Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney confirmed the assistance and directed her team of volunteers to deliver supplies to those in need. She said relief material distribution has begun across flood-hit villages. “Drones are being deployed to reach people whose houses remain submerged in Ravi river waters in the Ramdass area,” Sawhney noted.
The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by SSP (Rural) Maninder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Gupta, DSP Ajnala, and other officers, visited Harar Kalan village in the morning to oversee relief efforts. Officials said animal relief centres have also been set up at Chamyari and Ajnala Dana Mandi, where arrangements are being monitored by senior district officers.
Alongside Sartaaj’s contribution, Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi and businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actress Shilpa Shetty, have also pledged aid for the affected areas.
Amid the ongoing crisis, acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Gargaj appealed for collective solidarity. “All Punjabis must stand by one another in this difficult time and extend help to those in distress,” he said, urging citizens and authorities to probe the root causes of recurring floods in Punjab. He stressed that the reasons behind the repeated calamities should be made public so people can prepare better and efforts can be directed to mitigate future disasters.
