‘In Akali Rule, Drugs Were Called Majithia’: Mann in Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran, November 6: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday took a sharp political dig at former Akali Dal leadership during a roadshow in Tarn Taran, referencing the arrest of SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a high-profile drug case.

Speaking to supporters, Mann said heroin, widely known today as “Chitta,” had existed under a different name during the Akali regime. “During their rule, it wasn’t called Chitta—it was called Majithia Puri and Majithia Tikka,” he said. The Chief Minister’s remarks alluded to Majithia’s 2025 arrest over alleged money laundering and assets disproportionate to income linked to drug networks.

Mann accused both Akali Dal and Congress leaders of facilitating the growth of the drug trade and said the current administration is committed to strict enforcement against all involved. “No one with political influence will be above the law,” he said, emphasizing the state government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign.

The Tarn Taran address also served as a reminder of the government’s broader agenda to tackle drug addiction and corruption in Punjab, with Mann asserting that those responsible for past failures should not lecture the public on governance.
