New Delhi, Nov 13: Authorities in Delhi launched a full security response on Thursday after a bomb threat was reported for Air India’s Toronto-Delhi flight, which landed safely in the national capital in the afternoon.
According to sources, Delhi Police received a message in the morning claiming that flight AI188, operating from Toronto to Delhi, was under threat. Following the alert, the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The committee later assessed the threat as “non-specific.”
“During the flight’s cruise phase, a security alert was communicated regarding AI188,” an Air India spokesperson said. “The on-board crew carried out all laid down security drills, keeping passenger safety and security as the top priority.”
The spokesperson confirmed that the Boeing 777 aircraft landed safely at around 3:40 p.m. and was immediately parked in a designated isolation bay for mandatory security checks as per protocol. “All passengers and crew have disembarked safely,” the airline added.
The Toronto-Delhi service typically has a flight duration of a little over 15 hours, according to flight tracking platform Flightradar24.com.
Airport authorities said enhanced security measures remain in place across all terminals, including secondary ladder-point checks for all flights, following recent security incidents in the national capital.
