CHANDIGARH, Nov 29 — The Municipal Corporation House on Friday approved road-repair works worth ₹100 crore, setting the stage for relief from potholed and uneven roads that have troubled commuters for over a year.

Municipal commissioner Amit Kumar said the civic body’s finances were now “comfortable”, adding, “No councillor’s work will be stopped because of lack of funds. All development works already cleared by the administration will proceed without hindrance.”

The MC maintains more than 2,000 km of city roads, including V-3 sector-dividing roads, V-4 market streets, V-5 circulation routes, V-6 access roads, and parking areas in sectors, colonies and villages.

Road recarpeting, normally carried out in October–November and March–April, had stalled for three straight seasons due to the financial crunch since late 2024. The House has now cleared 13 road-repair agendas, signalling a return to routine maintenance by mid-2026.

As per the agenda, multiple cracked or depressed stretches will be recarpeted in 2026–27. These include:

  • ₹12.74 crore for V-4 roads in Sector 33 and V-5/V-6 roads in Sectors 31, 32 and 33.
  • ₹4.5 crore for V-6 roads in Sectors 41-A, 41-B, 42-A, 42-B and a V-5 stretch in Sector 52-B.
  • ₹3.6 crore for roads in Sectors 47, 48 and 50.
  • ₹5.5 crore for V-5 and V-6 roads in Sectors 37, 38, 56 and Palsora.
  • ₹8.4 crore for roads in Sectors 34, 35-A, 43, 44, and 51.
  • ₹18 crore for Sectors 15, 17, 21, 22 and 24.
  • ₹9.3 crore for recarpeting in Sectors 7, 8, 9 and 10.
  • ₹1.2 crore for Sector 25, EWS Colony and Dadumajra.
  • ₹3 crore for renewal of Dhanas EWS Colony roads, last done in 2020-21.

Officials said residents can expect major improvement by June next year if the work schedule holds.
