New Delhi, Dec. 8— The Supreme Court on Monday refused an urgent hearing on a petition seeking intervention in the nationwide disruption caused by IndiGo’s ongoing flight cancellations, saying the government had already taken cognisance of the situation.
A Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant was asked to immediately list a plea filed by “IndiGo All Passenger and Another,” which claimed more than 2,500 flights had been cancelled and that “a large number of passengers were facing problems.”
The CJI declined to take the case on priority. “It is a serious matter. Lakhs of people are stranded at airports. We know the Government of India has taken timely action and cognizance of the issue. Let them handle it,” he said, adding that some stranded passengers may also be facing medical or other urgent needs.
The plea was made as disruptions in IndiGo’s operations entered the seventh day, with more than 250 flights reportedly cancelled on Monday at the Delhi and Bengaluru airports alone.
The Bench said it would not interfere at this stage and did not fix a date for listing.
