New Delhi, 11 October, 2024: Nearly 40 days after an Indian Coast Guard helicopter made a forced landing at sea, the body of the last missing crew member has been found.
The Indian Coast Guard confirmed, “Regretfully, the mortal remains of Cmdt. R.K. Rana, the pilot in command, were recovered on Thursday, Oct. 10.”
Rana, a native of Himachal Pradesh, was one of four crew members aboard the helicopter, which crashed about 55 km off the coast of Porbandar during a rescue mission over the Arabian Sea on Sept. 2. The helicopter was en route to evacuate an ailing sailor from a merchant vessel.
The bodies of Cmdt. Vipin Babu and Pradhan Navik Karan Singh were recovered on Sept. 3. Gautam Kumar survived the crash.
