Snow, Rain Likely in Himachal’s Higher Reaches on Jan 5–6

Shimla, Jan 4— The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh are likely to receive fresh snowfall and rain on January 5 and 6, the state Meteorological Department said, even as weather conditions remained mostly dry across the state over the past 24 hours.

According to the Meteorological Centre, snow along with rain is very likely in Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts on both days. “Snowfall is also very likely in the higher reaches of Kullu and Chamba districts on January 6,” an official of the department said.

The official added that weather conditions are expected to remain dry in the plains as well as in the lower and middle hill areas during this period. A yellow warning for dense fog has been issued for several parts of the state till January 8.

The department has also forecast a gradual rise in temperatures. “Minimum temperatures are expected to increase by 2°C to 3°C in the coming days, while maximum temperatures may rise by 2°C to 4°C in most parts of the state,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh witnessed mostly dry weather in the last 24 hours. Minimum temperatures across most regions remained 2°C to 3°C above normal, ranging from minus 6°C to 8°C. Maximum temperatures, however, were recorded 2°C to 5°C below normal at many places, ranging between 2°C and 19°C.

Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 3.6°C, Dharamsala 3.5°C and Manali 0.2°C. Kalpa recorded minus 3°C, while Tabo was the coldest with a minimum temperature of minus 6.1°C.

Bajaura village in Kullu district recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 21.2°C, while Kukumseri village in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest, recording a minimum temperature of minus 6.3°C.
