Singer Rami Randhawa faces FIR over gun display

Amritsar, Jan 7: The Amritsar (Rural) police have registered a case against Punjabi singer Ramandeep Singh, known by his stage name Rami Randhawa, for allegedly displaying firearms on social media, officials said on Wednesday.

The police took suo motu cognisance after photographs showing weapons were uploaded on the singer’s Facebook account. Following verification, the Ajnala police lodged an FIR against him under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Arms Act.

“Information was received that Ramandeep Singh had posted objectionable photographs involving firearms on social media,” said ASI Kanwaljit Singh. “On checking his Facebook account, the information was found to be correct. Displaying arms on social media is a violation of law, therefore a case was registered,” he said.

Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine the origin of the weapons and whether the singer possesses a valid arms licence for those shown in the images.

The accused has not yet responded publicly to the registration of the case.
