Chandigarh, January 7: Platform number 1 at Chandigarh railway station will remain closed from January 20 to February 3 to facilitate construction work under the ongoing station redevelopment project, officials said.
The temporary closure has been scheduled by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) to allow the completion of the remaining foundation required for the air concourse roof structure, a key component of the proposed world-class station upgrade.
During the closure period, all trains that usually arrive at or depart from platform 1 will be diverted to other platforms. Railway officials said train services would continue, though some operations may be regulated and minor schedule adjustments could be required.
The Vande Bharat Express services numbered 20977 and 20978 will be shifted to platform number 6 for the duration of the closure. Officials added that these services will continue to operate from platform 6 even after platform 1 reopens.
Overall, the arrival and departure platforms of 32 trains have been changed as part of the arrangement. These include six Shatabdi Express services and two Vande Bharat trains, with trains being redistributed across platforms 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Railway authorities have advised passengers to check updated platform information before arriving at the station during the affected period.
