Chandigarh, Jan 8: Two Haryana judicial officers, Ramesh Chander Dimri and Neerja Kulwant Kalson, were sworn in as Additional Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday, following their appointment notified by the Centre earlier this month.
Chief Justice Sheel Nagu administered the oath of office during a ceremony held on the High Court premises.
According to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice, the President appointed Dimri and Kalson as Additional Judges of the High Court on January 2. With their induction, the court’s working strength has increased to 61.
The appointments were made on the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium, which had cleared their names for elevation at its meeting held on December 16, 2025.
The addition of judges is expected to aid efforts to tackle case backlog at the High Court. Data from the National Judicial Data Grid show that as of the latest count, 4,20,880 cases are pending before the court.
The pendency figure reflects a reduction of 11,347 cases from the 4,32,227 matters recorded in January 2025, according to official data.
