Amritsar, Feb 20: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee executive has issued a 72-hour deadline to Giani Ragbir Singh, the head granthi of Darbar Sahib, to produce written proof regarding his allegations of corruption. The decision follows a high-level meeting at the SGPC headquarters where members expressed grave concern over claims directed at the institution and the Badal family.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami asserted that the head granthi has defamed the religious body through these public statements. He affirmed that the executive will initiate formal action against Singh if he fails to provide substantive evidence within the stipulated three-day window.
The executive body also addressed separate accusations made by former Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh concerning funds from land acquisitions. These claims involved the GMADA scheme at Gurdwara Sri Amb Sahib in Mohali and land sales at Gurdwara Sri Bhatha Sahib in Ropar.
“These allegations are completely baseless and intended to harm the reputation of the committee,” Dhami declared during the session. He further maintained that the SGPC demands a public apology for these remarks and is prepared to file defamation cases if one is not forthcoming.
Beyond internal matters, the committee turned its attention to international and legal concerns. The executive condemned a recent attack on a Sikh individual in Australia and called for immediate government intervention to ensure the safety of the diaspora. Additionally, the SGPC criticized the rejection of Prof. Devinderpal Singh Bhullar’s release plea, characterizing the move as an anti-Sikh decision by the authorities.
