Amritsar, March 6: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police successfully disrupted an illegal arms smuggling module on Friday, arresting five suspects and one juvenile linked to handlers in Pakistan. The operation resulted in the recovery of five high-grade pistols and dozens of live cartridges intended for distribution to criminal elements.

DGP Gaurav Yadav declared via a statement that the crackdown was led by a team from the Maqboolpura police station. The seized inventory includes a diverse range of weaponry, such as a Glock 9 mm, a Taurus 9 mm, a PX5 .30 bore, and a Pakistan-manufactured Gretta 9 mm pistol.

Investigators stated that the module utilized social media platforms to coordinate with smugglers across the border. These digital channels were allegedly used to facilitate the delivery and subsequent movement of illegal arms throughout the city and its outskirts.

The network is believed to be a localized cell of a much larger transnational smuggling operation. Authorities maintained that the primary objective of the group was to provide sophisticated firepower to organized crime figures in the region.

An FIR has been registered under the Arms Act at the Maqboolpura station. Police officials asserted that the investigation remains active as they work to trace both the origin of the weapons and the final intended recipients of the cache.
