NEW DELHI, MAY 12 — The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3, following reports from central agencies regarding alleged irregularities. The decision, approved by the Government of India, renders the previous test void and mandates a fresh examination for all registered medical aspirants.
The NTA stated that the move was necessary to preserve the transparency and credibility of the national examination system. According to the agency, findings shared by law enforcement agencies raised significant concerns regarding the integrity of the initial process. The matter has now been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations.
“The present examination process could not be allowed to stand,” the NTA affirmed in an official statement. The agency noted that it would provide all necessary records and assistance to the CBI during the investigation. To minimize the burden on students, the NTA declared that registration details and examination centers from the May cycle will remain valid for the re-conducted test, and no additional fees will be charged.
Fresh dates for the re-examination and the issuance of new admit cards will be notified through official channels in the coming days. The agency also announced that examination fees already paid by candidates would be refunded as the test is re-conducted using internal resources. Officials have cautioned candidates and parents to rely strictly on official notifications and ignore unverified social media reports.
