NEW DELHI, MAY 12 — Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Union Government Tuesday, following the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) decision to cancel the NEET-UG 2026 examination. Gandhi stated that the move has crushed the dreams of more than 22 lakh students, attributing the administrative failure to “organized corruption” within the current regime.
The NTA announced the cancellation after law enforcement agencies shared findings regarding irregularities in the May 3 examination. Gandhi maintained that the recurring issue of paper leaks demonstrates a systemic collapse of the education sector under the BJP-led government. He noted that the financial and emotional sacrifices of families—many of whom took loans or sold assets to fund their children’s studies—have been wasted due to government negligence.
“The hard work, sacrifices, and dreams of more than 22 lakh students have been crushed by this corrupt BJP regime,” Gandhi affirmed in a social media post. He stated that the “paper mafia” continues to operate with impunity while honest students are subjected to recurring mental stress and financial burdens. Gandhi further noted that if merit is replaced by money and connections, the value of education in the country would be permanently diminished.
The Congress leader declared that the current era, often described by the government as “Amrit Kaal,” has instead become a “poison era” for the country’s youth. He asserted that the opposition would hold the government accountable for the uncertainty now facing millions of medical aspirants. The NTA has indicated that fresh dates for the re-examination will be notified separately as the Central Bureau of Investigation begins its probe.
